Changes for 2005 include a new optional six-speed automatic transmission with the 2.0 and 1.8T engines, a standard MP3 connector for the radio and a satellite radio (either XM or Sirius) option. The 1.8T engine gets squeaky-clean with a ULEV emissions rating. Color changes (always an important factor in any New Beetle purchase) are as follows: Shadow Blue replaces Galactic Blue, Tornado Red replaces Uni Red, and Blue Lagoon is no longer available.

- Tight rear-seat accommodations, limited cargo room, Turbo S model priced much higher than comparable performance coupes.

By isabrooke - June 12 - 9:23 pmthis is my third vw new beetle and first convertible! i absolutely love it. its also first ever automatic transmission but with the Tiptronic shifting i feel im still in control on curves~ total blast to drive as were previous new beetles. only difference is, the flower doesnt stay it the vase for long with the top down at speeds over 10mph!

(One of the safest small cars I could find) All you need to do is go test drive one and you will be hooked. I drove mine and I fell in love. Good things come in small packages :)

Looking Good in My Lady Bug! - 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle
By ladybug - May 29 - 12:40 amI love my chick car. I look good in it. Taking the top down is awesome in the warm weather, and it drives well in the winter too. It has impressive head-room and I can almost stand up on the floor of the backseat. The trunk is tiny, but who cares? Put your groceries on the passenger seat. Ive had it for about a year now and have had no mechanical issues at all, gas efficiency is pretty average, and its overall pretty low maintenance.

Its a Lime! - 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle
By stowbound - May 4 - 4:36 amIf it were yellow, it would be a lemon...instead I bought my wife a lime (green) for her 40th birthday. I believed that German engineering would provide us a good quality car that we could keep for 10+ years. Instead, I have had to sue under the lemon law for our horrible experience. The transmission still not fixed, the sound system rattles, marker lights fall out and dangle from the cords, gaskets come loose and the plastic parts break with ease. It is fun to drive with the top down, but is uncomfortable, gets poor mileage (24 mph, not 30 as advertised) is noisy and just feels cheap. There is also no storage anywhere in the car. This is not a car that will last. What a disappointment!

By Shari - December 15 - 7:20 amThis is the best car ever. All my friends love it. It is easy to drive, and a smooth ride. The interior is spacious, and you dont feel cramped at all. It was the best buy I made. When my Beetle is done with, I am definitely going to buy another one.

By Ann - December 13 - 5:46 pmI have to admit it...this is a fun car. The turbo gives it a lot of pick up, especially when youre merging into traffic. You cant help but feel young and happy when driving it. It sure does beat my mini-van!

Exploding Windows - 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle
By gretche - November 4 - 12:20 amWe have enjoyed driving our New Beetle, we have been VW owners since the late 50s and our daughter still has her first car, 1971 Beetle Convertible. We will be forced to get rid of our car because the window on the drivers door has exploded twice. Our car is almost out of warantee and VW has told us that if the window explodes again, it will be our expense. We feel this is a danger but there has been no recall or service notes on it. VW of Americas answer to us is, "we are very sorry." We feel we will have to get rid of the car before one of us loses an eye. Our dealership has admitted to having several cars with similar problems, sometimes it is the passenger door.

Its great ... - 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle
By Ky - September 22 - 11:03 amThis car is the perfect car for a teenage in high school or college. My parents bought me one last October, and it has worked great for me. I went fromm a 2001 4Runner to this and it is much easier to drive. I would recommend this car to any parent thinking about buying a car for their child. Even my guy friends think it is one of the best drives they have ever driven when they get behind the wheel. The only think they are againt is the color i picked... mellow yellow, but i love it and thats all that matters right. My neighbors loved the car so much they went out and bought the exact same one color and everything. Overall its a great car.

2005 TDI New Beetle - 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle

At first I wasnt sure if we needed this car with its reputation for questionable reliability, but after owning it now for a few months and 4,000 miles or so, I like it. Especially the 42 mpg highway 38 mpg overall. There seems to be very little middle ground with the New Bettles, if you like it enough to buy it, then you most likely love your Beetle. We asked all the Beetle owners we could find prior to purchasing ours, even those who had quite a few tedious under warranty repair issues, and they still loved their New Beetle and were looking a the newer models to replace their 4 or 5 year old Beetles. So far ours has been excellent and trouble free.
